The Hallstein Octagon
Working with a team of scientists and water experts, we began to establish some core metrics for defining drinking water quality. Using their criteria, we began testing a large number of waters in laboratories. After years of testing and sourcing we found what we were looking for deep beneath the base of the Austrian Dachstein Mountain. Hallstein Water is the only commercially available drinking water that meets optimal levels of all 8 core parameters.

From a Deep Artesian Well
Deeper wells usually signify the aquifer is protected from environmental contaminants from above – ideally the depth of an artesian well should be 330 ft (100 m) or deeper. The HALLSTEIN well is 700 ft (214 m) deep!
Extraction Method
Sources generally are pumped out of the ground to meet demand. Pumping can over time have a negative effect on quality because the natural rate of replenishment is exceeded. Hallstein does not use any additional pumping pressure used for filling beyond the natural artesian pressure. This is to protect source water quality, and keep our source’s aquaculture sustainable for generations to come.
Filtration Method
Hallstein filters naturally from hitting the surface of the Dachstein into the aquifer through very pure limestone and natural glacial moraine of the same quality limestone. No filtration processes are used on the Hallstein sourced prior to bottling whatsoever. Generally filtration is needed due to excessive mineralogy or other contaminants that exist in a source water. Hallstein has none of that.

RECYCLING
What to do with the empty 5 gallons bottles?
At the moment we have our clients put empty bottles into the regular recycling process. This is for several reasons, but primarily because we would need to filter/treat Hallstein at the filling process. We are never willing to compromise on quality because Hallstein comes completely unfiltered and untreated — and no pumping involved.
We are working on a more guaranteed closed-loop solution where bottles will be sent directly to recycling facilities, and hope to have that process complete by the end of 2025. That would involve returning the empty bottles with a shipping label to a collection point for recycling.
We have also been researching the use of other compounds that would be even more efficient/recycled and potentially compostable, but don’t anticipate being able to implement anything until the earliest 2025. Of course always with the goal in mind to keep the quality of Hallstein the same from source to our clients.

Isn’t water just H2O?
No! Water molecules actually are clusters of 5 or more H2O molecules bound together. Anything less would only appear as water vapor.
Why is water quality in general so important?
There are 3 main reasons why true water quality is extremely important:
- Water should be free of contaminants that can make you ill or threaten your mortality.
- Water should be there to hydrate you. You can survive for 3 weeks without food, but only up to 3 days without water!
- True water quality should be analyzed for optimal hydration, which we believe includes the 8 core parameters.
Where is Hallstein Water from?
Hallstein comes from deep in the Austrian Alps. Specifically, the source is located in the village of Obertraun in the Hallstatt- Dachstein/Salzkammergut region.
Why should water be ideally sourced from a natural artesian aquifer?
Deeper wells usually signify the aquifer is protected from environmental contaminants from above – ideally the depth of an artesian well should be 100 meters (330ft) or deeper. The Hallstein well is 214m (700ft) deep!
Why is pH in water so important?
A high pH value is hugely important in drinking water, because its alkalinity helps return the body’s pH back to neutral (7), balancing many of the acidic elements we encounter every day. An ideal drinking water to maintain good health has an alkaline pH level between 8 and 9.5 – Hallstein Water’s pH level is 8.3
Is it possible to artificially influence the pH level in water?
Yes. A water’s pH can be increased by adding sodium to the water.
What is the shelf life of Hallstein Water?
We do not have a shelf life for Hallstein Water. Hallstein’s pristine quality renders it very stable as opposed to other filtered or treated waters that tend to break down. In addition, since we do not reuse our current bottles due to the potential particulate contamination risk caused by the washing process to reuse, the interior of the bottle is no threat to the quality of Hallstein.
What is the best way to store Hallstein Water?
The best way to store Hallstein is in a cool, dark and dry space in your home. Since our bottles arrive in individual boxes, should light be in the storage area, that is not a problem.

What is the white ring on the inside of some of the glass bottles?
From time to time there is some calcification that happens on the inside of the neck of the glass bottles. Please know this is harmless and we have tested bottles for it. You can comfortably and safely drink Hallstein!

Can I receive a refund if my order arrived damaged or is missing?
We rarely encounter material damage or missed deliveries with our carriers but it’s always the unfortunate possibility that a bottle/dispenser arrives damaged. If you feel that your product has arrived seriously damaged and is unfit for consumption, please contact us immediately at +1 (888) 988-9148 or email us at contact@hallsteinwater.com. We will work with you to find the best possible solution and send a replacement product if appropriate. For deliveries deemed missing, please allow up to 5 business days after placing your order before contacting us to ensure that the carrier has had sufficient time to deliver your shipment.

How will my order be shipped?
The vast majority of orders are shipped via UPS or other shipping carriers. For customers that order in bulk (more than 12 bottles at once) we work with less-than-truckload carriers to deliver.
Do I pay for shipping?
No. We provide free shipping.

What should I do with my delivery if I plan to travel?
If you are planning to travel within your account jurisdiction and have an ongoing subscription, Hallstein allows you to change the delivery address for your next order. To do so click on the Modify Delivery Address button from the My Account page and enter your new delivery address in the pop-up form. Just remember to change it back to your usual address once you are back from your travels. There is no reason to not take your Hallstein with you when traveling.
Alternatively, you may also choose to pause your subscription or delay your next delivery. You can also do these actions from your My Account page.
